NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION

nitrous oxide

Nitrous oxide is often called “laughing gas” but we promise it won’t make you giggle thru your procedure. It is a non-allergenic, non-irritating gas that affects the central nervous system. It's one of the safest forms of sedation available with very few, if any, side effects and takes effect within 3-5 minutes.

Nitrous Oxide offers many benefits to the patient during the dental treatment. It reduces the discomfort or anxiety associated with an injection of local anesthesia, you remain conscious during treatment, gag reflex and flow of saliva are somewhat decreased, and probably most importantly, it helps to eliminate fear and reduces anxiety by helping you relax.

nitrous oxide FAQS

Will I Be Conscious During the Procedure?

Yes, nitrous oxide is a sedative that is not intended to put you to sleep. You will be awake, able to hear, and respond to any requests or directions during your procedure.

How Long Will the Effects of Nitrous Oxide Last?

The effects of nitrous oxide will wear off rapidly after the mask is removed.

nitrous oxide WHAT TO EXPECT

You will have a small mask placed over your nose that will deliver a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. You will be asked to just breathe normally thru your nose and within a few minutes you will begin to feel relaxed. Some people say their arms and legs feel heavy but not everyone will feel this. You should feel relaxed and comfortable. When the procedure is complete we will stop the nitrous oxide and allow you to breathe oxygen thru the mask for a few minutes before getting up. The effects of nitrous oxide will wear off rapidly after the mask is removed.
